When and where is the GHLC at JHU?

The GHLC at JHU is a virtual summer program held via Zoom. Typically, programming starts in June and ends by August, with 1-2 virtual events per week. To clarify, the program is a series of virtual events mostly held on weekends. If an admitted student cannot attend parts of the programming synchronously/live, there will be asynchronous options for students to watch the content they miss.

Is this program Johns Hopkins University affiliated or is it an external organization holding this conference at JHU?

Our program is completely Johns Hopkins University student, alumni, and faculty-led and is organized by Glohea at JHU, an academic student organization associated with the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health. Our program is supported by, features, and works with faculty and students from the JHU Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the JHU Whiting School of Engineering, the JHU School of Medicine, the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the JH Center for Global Health.

Who is eligible to apply to this program?

Any student in grades 9-12 from any U.S. state or from any country is welcome to apply.

Is there a conference fee?

The registration fee for the 2024 conference is 99 USD. There are no application fees. If the registration fee presents a significant financial burden on your family, please inform us upon your acceptance; we do not want the conference fee to be a barrier for any deserving student who is admitted into our program.

Could I get more clarity on when the virtual events will be held?

The majority of our programming depends on the availability of our featured speakers; due to their extremely busy and fluid schedules we are not always able to announce exact dates and times of their talks until a few weeks beforehand. Typically, events are scheduled in the mornings around 10am - 12pm Eastern Time or in the evenings around 6pm - 8pm Eastern Time. If students are unable to attend a virtual event live, recordings will be accessible to them for almost all programming to view what they missed at a later time.
